The Committee’s study examines the exponential progress made in the field of AI, creating unique opportunities to transform various aspects of human activity with positive implications for society and the economy, both nationally and internationally.

This study, based on extensive research and consultations with experts from Greece and abroad, analyzes the principles that should guide a national strategy, the adopted methodology, and six flagship projects with the potential to transform Greece in the AI sector. Additionally, international strategies and best practices, as presented in reports by the OECD and other organizations, were reviewed. This approach ensured that the Committee’s proposals align with global trends while addressing national needs and specificities. The strategy formulation relied on a collaborative approach, involving government officials, researchers, entrepreneurs, and international experts. This inclusive process ensures that the strategy is both comprehensive and well-suited to Greece’s unique context and challenges.

The first two chapters outline the Committee’s framework and methodology, while the subsequent chapters focus on four key areas: innovation and entrepreneurship, education and research, the regulatory framework, and AI applications in government.

Specifically:

  • Chapter 3 examines how AI can promote innovation and enhance the business ecosystem, positioning Greece as an attractive hub for startups and investments.
  • Chapter 4 emphasizes strengthening education and research, essential for developing skills and advancing knowledge in the AI sector.
  • Chapter 5 explores the regulatory framework, emphasizing the importance of ensuring responsible and safe use of AI.
  • Chapter 6 proposes ways to apply AI technologies in the public sector to improve efficiency and transparency.
